NATIVE AOTEAROA
Magazine Design & LayouT
This project involved designing the cover series and layout for Native Aotearoa, a magazine dedicated to the rich botanical heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand's native plants.
The design process for Native Aotearoa involved extensive research into Aotearoa’s native plants and cultural motifs to ensure authenticity and resonance with its audience. This project exemplifies my commitment to blending design with environmental appreciation.
The interior layout is structured for clarity and engagement, with ample white space, thoughtful image placement, and color-coded sections that guide readers smoothly through articles on botanical features, cultural context, and conservation efforts. Typography choices balance bold headers with readable body text, creating a clean, professional aesthetic that invites readers to explore. There are one, two, and three column grid systems.
The covers (below) each feature a striking image of an iconic native plant, paired with the title "Native Aotearoa" in a modern typeface, the issue number, logo, and the theme. The design system allows for these elements to move on each cover, framing the image below effectively. The earthy color palette and textures evoke a natural, organic feel that reflects Aotearoa’s landscapes.
