THE NEW SCHOOL

Every year, The New School hosts Climate Week events on their campus. These two banners were for The New School’s Tishman Environment and Design Center’s Climate Week September 2023 campaign and for their Mandatory Emissions Reduction Event.

I made these two pieces to be relevant to the event’s urban setting in New York City, and to highlight Tishman’s emphasis on environmental, social, and climate justice. They were used as banners for multiple events, on web and in print.

Both illustrations use organic forms of plants and nature in contrast with pollution and human-made environments—factories and urban buildings. The forms of the pollution mimic the forms of the plants, calling out the issue of pollution negatively impacting the environment.

Illustration & Banner Design

The design with the yellow background was originally created as a second option for the client. They ended up liking both so much that they used the yellow-background design as the banner for the launch of their report, “Mandatory Emissions Reductions: Centering Environmental Justice in Climate Policy.”

I was given a very tight timeline by the client to produce these banners, but their launch was successful.

I continue to work with The New School and Tishman Center on graphic design, illustration, and copywriting projects.
